What does it feel like to be in deep relaxation? How do you relax so profoundly? What's the secret? Well it's a very simple process and there are no secrets involved. If you want to relax and improve your life then you will just allow yourself to enter deep relaxation. Remember how you feel as you lie down to take a nap. Your body relaxes first, then your mind relaxes too; you begin to feel more peaceful, and then you slowly start to drift into greater relaxation. You are still aware of the people & activities around you, but you don't pay any particular attention to them. Your feel very drowsy & your mind desires to rest and sleep. At that particular moment just before you might fall asleep, you are experiencing the same feelings that you will feel in deep relaxation- calm, restful, unconcerned, and deeply relaxed. Many people doing deep relaxation for the first time wonder if they are "doing it correctly". That's never a concern. All you have to do is just follow all of the doctor's directions; he knows everything there is to know about the process & guides you step by step. When the doctor gives you a specific suggestion, just "imagine" that you are doing it. As soon as you imagine you are doing something, then your inner mind does it automatically. So all you have to do is follow these easy directions, and continue to imagine as you are doing each step. It's as easy as that. Dr. Kearney simply "talks" to you and tells you how to do the various steps in the process of achieving relaxation. You are first given suggestions on how to relax your body. As you follow the doctor's directions, you allow yourself to deeply relax the various parts of your body. You become more & more comfortable physically, just as if you were deeply relaxing on the couch on a weekend afternoon. Then the doctor teaches you how to relax your mind as well. Your progressive physical relaxation also makes your conscious mind more comfortable and it begins to relax and often drift off, as if you were daydreaming. As your conscious mind begins to rest, your subconscious mind becomes highly attentive. You often have the sensation that part of you is listening and another part is just relaxing & not paying attention. At this point, your subconscious mind is actually listening carefully to the doctor who begins to offer you suggestions and directions for improvement & healing. In deep relaxation, you are awake & quite aware of everything going on around you. The relaxation is experienced differently by each person, and it varies from session to session. Some people relax lightly and almost feel as if they are not in another state. Others relax deeply and feel that they have achieved a deep level of physical comfort. What you experience consciously doesn't matter, the depth of physical relaxation never prevents the doctor from speaking with the subconscious mind & helping you to make changes & improvements in your life. During deep relaxation your subconscious mind becomes responsive to healing suggestions which can be directed toward self-improvement & personal growth, or for developing new attitudes, perceptions, & strong motivation. As needed, you can relieve & prevent stress, & release troubling emotions; you can dissolve away old fears, doubts & inhibitions to achieve emotional harmony. With deep relaxation, you are always in control & you create the positive changes that will occur. Your personal growth begins immediately because of the new perceptions & focus of your mind. When people "emerge" from deep relaxation, they will usually state that they have never before been able to attain such deep calm & relaxation. They are absolutely amazed that deep relaxation creates such pleasurable physical, emotional & mental tranquility. People also immediately realize, consciously & subconsciously, that the relaxation experience is going to make a significant change in their lives. Then, a few minutes after you emerge from deep relaxation, you are fully alert, nicely relaxed, and ready & able to do whatever you planned to do for the rest of the day. |
