High blood pressure, and diabetes, are known to cause severe loss of vision, including blindness, in some individuals. High blood pressure helps accelerate the process of hardening of the arteries in the blood vessels. When this occurs in the eye, the ocular circulation may be partially or totally shut off. If an artery becomes blocked, this will result in damage or death of a significant number of the retinal nerve fibers at the back of the eye. If a vein becomes blocked, there will be severe hemorrhage in the eye, scar formation, nerve damage, & secondary glaucoma. The shutting off of any blood vessel results in severe vision loss and often blindness. Therefore it is essential to control high blood pressure. Diabetes causes more damage to the eyes than does hypertension. In fact, diabetes is a leading cause of blindness. Over time, diabetes causes damage to the blood vessels in the eye. This can result in severe hemorrhages that damage the delicate nerve fibers in the eye. Continued bleeding causes scar formation leading to retinal detachments and eventual blindness. So it is also essential to carefully control diabetes to prevent severe vision loss & disability. Interestingly, both high blood pressure & diabetes are tremendously effected by stress & tension. The reduction of stress in the hypertensive individual will usually result in a lowering of blood pressure. It is not uncommon for an individual to get an improvement of 10-30 mm in both levels of blood pressure. The reduction of tension in the diabetic will often cause an improvement in the ability to control & then lower blood sugar. Diabetics have been known to lower their glucose by 30-100 points with stress reduction therapy. So both conditions are effected a great deal by stress. The removal or reduction of stress will usually bring significant improvement in these disorders. As stated many times on this web site, one of the most effective means of eliminating unhealthy stress is self-healing in inner awareness. It would certainly be worthwhile for anyone with high blood pressure or diabetes to consider using self-healing to reduce or eliminate all forms of stress including old emotional inner stress. Since both conditions have such devastating effects on the eyes, as well as the rest of the body, any and all means should be used to deal with these disorders. Unquestionably, a brief course of self-healing for stress removal and deep relaxation can be a highly beneficial investment. And anyone who has either of these diseases should use self-healing in inner awareness to reduce stress, to help in the correction of those eyes already effected by hypertension or diabetes, and to help prevent severe vision loss or blindness. |
